James B. Harrison is the Marching, Ensemble & Education Director for Vater Percussion. He is also an Adjunct Faculty member teaching drum set at Boise State University and is also the Drum Line Instructor of the Boise State University Blue Thunder Marching Band.
He holds a BA in music/percussion from Murray State University (KY) and is completing work on his MA in music education at Boise State University (ID).
James is known as an extremely versatile performer, his diversity is well documented through his performances with such artist as Steve Miller, Arturo Sandoval, Bo Diddley, Peter Noone, Phyllis Diller, Bruce Willis, Gary Burton, Ernie Watts, Jon Faddis, Bill Watrous, Eric Marienthal, Randy Brecker, Jimmy Dorsey Band, The Boise Philharmonic , the Rocci Johnson Band and several local artists. He cites drum duets (battles) with the late great Louie Bellson and living legend Billy Cobham as two of the greatest honors in his life.
James is an active clinician in the schools and Day of Percussion type events. He is also active on the adjudicator scene judging marching band and solo & ensemble competitions in the area. James also keeps a very active performing and teaching schedule that keeps him in the public eye, recently James, (as part of the Rocci Johnson Band) traveled to Japan to perform for the USAF at the Misawa AFB.
He is also a former president of 13 years of the Idaho Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society.
James currently has Artist/Endorsement agreements with Yamaha Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Vater Drumsticks, REMO Drum heads and Grover Pro Percussion.
